SENIOR MECHANICAL ENGINEER INVERTER

The R&D Team for electric drive units at Stark Future develops highly integrated and power-dense drivetrains that will help Stark Future’s product offering leap ahead of anything else. As Senior mechanical Engineer with focus in Inverter Design, you'll be at the core of the creation of next-generation electric motorcycles & associated products.You will report to the Head of Electric Drive Units while being part of a growing team of engineers and designers in Barcelona. You will own the complete mechanical design of the Inverter, from concept to production, always striving for the physical limit maximizing performance and efficiency while minimizing weight, cost and complexity. You’ll need to balance simulation, mechanical design, experimental testing and production capabilities to achieve this in a fast-paced, evolving, and highly innovative environment.Stark Future’s mission is to lead the way towards a sustainable motorcycle industry, by reducing plastic and CO2 pollution. Our work mentality is based upon three pillarsWE CHALLENGE THE NORM TO IMPROVE HOW THINGS ARE DONEWE SEARCH FOR THE LIMIT, WE ADAPT AND WE SET CLEAR, SMART AND INSPIRING GOALSWE DELIVER OUTSTANDING RESULTSResponsibility- Own the complete mechanical design (3D/2D) and integration of the inverter, from concept to production, including power electronics components, bus bars, heat sinks, insulation systems, casting and injection molded parts, connectors, PCBAs,...- Leverage mechanical design analysis, simulations and tests (thermal, CFD, structural, assembly, testability, insulation,…)- Work closely with the power electronic engineers selecting electronic components and integrated circuits such as advanced power switches/modules and high energy dense capacitors to meet the performance, efficiency and package targets.- Coordinate suppliers to include manufacturing at scale all along in the development process.- Define optimized interfaces to other components like motor, batteries, ECUs, cooling... - Support eDrive team with validation process, certification, documentation, working methodology and learnings.- Troubleshooting electronics assembly issues (thermal, electric isolation, sealing, connections, shock/vibration, EMI, etc.)- Coordinate prototypes and validation samples- Proactively help in building a powertrain team capable of developing and shipping a full Powertrain System on its own.- Work with the Electronics, vehicle engineering, powertrain and industrialization teams to design, develop, test and ship leading high-volume electric motorcycles on time and under budget.Qualifications & Skills- Mechanical, Mechatronics or Electrical Engineering Degree (BS, MS preferred)- Strong analytical & problem solving skills.- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams & also independently with minimal supervision.- Comfortable in an agile, fast-paced, ever-evolving, highly innovative environment (startup or high-tech companies).You have high standards for yourself and everyone you work with.- Constantly looking for ways to improve your products performance, quality and cost. Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, fluent English is a must.Experience- At least 5 years of experience in developing and bringing to market complex power electronics and high voltage drive systems for automotive applications.- Excellent first-principle physics understanding of electrical and mechanical systems, power delivery, energy storage and transformation, and basic thermodynamics.- Deep knowledge in material selection and high-volume manufacturing processes (casting, molding, welding connections, stamping,...).- Proven capability of conducting high-quality research and development.- Ability to evaluate powertrain attributes such as performance curves, efficiency, etc.- Experience with 3D and FEA modeling packages, 2D Drawing and GD&T for serial manufacturing, PLM systems and BOM structuring.- Familiarity with PCBAs and PCBA components - Familiar with all manufacturing, certification and QC processes usually involved in the production of powerful electric drives.- Experience with environmental, reliability, safety, and industry standard requirements.Nice to have- Good understanding and comfortable designing analog & digital circuits, selecting components for mass production and all stages of circuit design.- CAD/CAE experience with Creo / Windchild - Experience in modeling and testing of electrical machines and inverters- Working experience in DSP, FPGA, and/or microcontrollers.- Experience with design to meet EMI requirements.- Working knowledge of Matlab- Knowledge of concepts like value proposition, business models, marketing.- Demonstrable Formula SAE/Student experience.What we offer- Take part in building the future of the motorcycle industry through performance light electric mobility in a rapidly growing international company- Enter early and play a key part in growing eDrive team- Competitive conditions- modern R&D facilities, fully equipped workstation and Software Tools- Live in beautiful Barcelona, work with amazing young team
