PHYSICAL SIMULATION OF RAPID PROCESSING OF METALLIC MATERIALS

The research activities have been focused on the areas of materials for transport, energy, and health care and the Institute has state-of-the-art facilities for processing, characterization and simulation of advanced materials.

Description This project will focus on development of methodology for physical simulation of rapid processing of metallic materials.
Physical simulation is a valuable technique to develop novel advanced metallic materials and manufacturing processes.
Furthermore, it allows us to study the microstructure and property evolution in materials during manufacturing process and generate high quality data required for modelling.
The main outcome of the project will be fundamental understanding of microstructure and property evolution during rapid manufacturing in different metallic materials.
The pre-doctoral researcher will develop skills in physical simulation using thermo-mechanical simulator GLEEBLE, advanced microstructural characterization techniques, such as SEM, TEM and EBSD, and mechanical testing, including fatigue and fracture testing.
The student will work in a very close collaboration with leading researchers from European partner universities and research centres.
An opportunity for obtaining international PhD degree can also be offered.
Requirements Candidates should hold an MSc in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, Materials Science or related disciplines with excellent academic credentials and a solid commitment to developing an academic career in an international and multidisciplinary environment.
