TOMATO BREEDER (H/M/X)

We are seeking a Tomato Breeder (H/M/X) to develop small fruit size tomato varieties that exceed the expectations of the growers in Almería and various regions, as well as those of the customers.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Preparation of breeding populations and generation of experimental hybrids.Deployment of modern breeding techniques to develop successful varieties.Definition of criteria to select variations together with the trial officer and sales team.Selection of best-adapted hybrids and promotion of them and their parent lines to become varieties and stable parent lines.Collection of fieldnotes on horticultural traits, both on inbred and hybrid materials, including pathology traits, together with the trial officer.Organizing the screening of hybrids from different programs at the location under their responsibility when applicable.Variety Advancement Process:Ensuring all processes in the Variety Advancement Process are followed.Ensuring parental lines are stable and tested to relevant MM and biological tests.Ensuring hybrid seed production of S1/S2 is done accordingly.Taking an active part in meetings with retailers and fresh product dealers to define future needs and current trends of the tomato fresh produce market.Reporting directly to the R&D Manager.We are looking for a hands-on professional who combines a clear vision and solid knowledge in plant breeding with the ability to translate market needs into new varieties.Function Requirements:PhD or master's degree in plant breeding, plant sciences, or equivalent education.In-depth knowledge in the field of genetics, plant biology, and plant breeding.Experience as a breeder for at least 3-5 years, preferably in tomatoes.Experience with modern breeding techniques and the use of molecular markers.Capability for independent and self-motivated work routine, maintaining long-distance working relationships, and ability to prepare and interpret clear reports, charts, and tables.Functioning well in multidisciplinary teams of agronomists, scientists, as well as marketing specialists.Traveling frequently within Europe, but also to Israel, Morocco, and occasionally to Mexico is required for this position.Competencies:Able to communicate with a diversity of stakeholders and extract their wishes to use in your breeding program.Enthusiastic with a hands-on spirit, a strong vision, and the ability to make strategic choices.Analytically strong, thinks in a solution-oriented way, sees and handles challenges instead of problems.Efficiently analyzing breeding data and market trends and translating them into targeted breeding projects.Standing firm and always focused on connection with colleagues, growers, and other stakeholders.Experience with relevant IT applications.Able to give and receive constructive feedback to stakeholders.Able to speak and write English and Spanish fluently.If you meet the requirements and are ready to join a team passionate about innovation in agriculture, we look forward to receiving your application!
