IMDEA Materials Institute is a public research organization founded in by Madrid’s regional government to carry out research of excellence in Material Science and Engineering by attracting talent from all over the world to work in an international and multidisciplinary environment.

Description The work will design new high-performance steels from possible mixtures of scrap compositions from conventional alloys and optimize by means of thermodynamic modelling and machine learning.
Prototypes will be developed arc melting and powders will be set to be consolidated using 3D printing techniques.
This project will lead to a PhD that will be defended at Carlos III University of Madrid.
The thesis project is part of a large collaborative project involving 8 companies and 4 research centers, so the interaction with the industrial sector will be significant and during the development of the thesis some secondments will be planned at the site of one of the partners.
He/she will receive training in transversal skills and will have the opportunity to learn from the 3D printing market and disseminate his/her work at specialized forums.
Requirements Materials Science and Engineering Bachelor and/or Master with a strong background in metallurgy and powder metallurgy.
Experience in experimental materials processing, microstructure characterization, and mechanical testing will be recognized.
Experience in programming and/or artificial intelligence will be valued.
Fluent English (oral and written) is required.
Conditions 3.
-year contract with full social security coverage.
