BIOINFORMATIC WITH MICROBIOLOGY BACKGROUND FOR THE ANTIMICROBIAL RESISTANCE GROUP

The Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) is a cutting-edge institute addressing global public health challenges through research, translation into policy and education.
ISGlobal has a broad portfolio in communicable and non-communicable diseases including environmental and climate determinants, and applies a multidisciplinary scientific approach ranging from the molecular to the population level.
Research is organized in five programs.
Climate, Air Pollution, Nature and Urban Health; Environment and Health over the Lifecourse; Global Viral and Bacterial Infections; Malaria and Neglected Parasitic Diseases and Maternal Child and Reproductive Health.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR ISGlobal is seeking a person who provides highly qualified input and research support in order to better exploit the scientific contribution of the project.
PhD in computational biology / bioinformatics or MsC with equivalent experience will be determinant.
This person will be in charge of taking over and managing activities related to Whole Genome Sequencing of bacteria of the group research lines.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Supervise the proper technical development of the group research lines.
Identify the group needs and provide solutions for any deviations.
Implement and execute specific analysis pipelines for each project.
Interpret and present research results.
SPECIFIC DUTIES Minimum of 2 years of experience in comparative genomics and/or phylogenetics projects.
Knowledge of NGS, ONT, and PacBio sequencing technologies.
Demonstrable practical knowledge of programming languages, including Python, R, SQL, Linux, and JavaScript.
Create and manage structural databases.
Proficiency in processing and analyzing WGS, RNA-seq, and other relevant datasets.
Experience with software version control systems, Git, Snakemake, Nextflow technologies, Docker, and/or HPC environments is a plus.
Analyze whole-genome sequence data of various bacterial strains for different objectives.
Perform variant calling analysis on antibiotic-resistant selected mutants.
Implement and execute specific analysis pipelines for the project.
Interpret and present research results.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS Experience in the analysis of WGS bacterial DNA, focusing on Antimicrobial Resistance Genes, Virulence-Encoding Factor Genes, and metagenomics.
A person combining expertise in computer science and biology would be ideal.
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS PhD in Computational Biology / Bioinformatics, or MSc with equivalent experience.
LANGUAGE LEVEL Proficiency in English Spanish and Catalan user level will be appreciated CONDITIONS Duration.

SELECTION PROCESS The selection process is designed in two phases.
1- Interview phase of a technical nature, with the team that requires the incorporation.

2 - Meeting with HR with the finalist(s) to finish assessing the profile and discuss contractual and institutional issues.
If needed any technical test could be passed.
A Psychological Competency Evaluation Test will be required for the structural or transversal positions.
In accordance with the OTM-R principles, a gender-balanced recruitment panel is formed for every vacancy at the beginning of the process.
