1 YL ENGLISH TEACHER

Montijo - Badajoz

Descripción de la oferta de empleo

Job Summary We are a small, friendly school in the heart of unspoiled, beautiful Extremadura, in the Southwest of Spain, where we teach young learners and teens.
We are looking for 1 enthusiastic and qualified native level English teacher to join our team, preferably with a years experience.
Starting in September until the end of June, 24 hours per week, teaching from Monday to Thursday in the afternoons, and team planning on some Friday mornings.
At least 2 weeks paid holiday at Christmas and a week at Easter.
We offer an attractive salary and help with accommodation.
Montijo is provided with all the amenities of a small town.
There are plenty of shops and lovely restaurants that specialize in the tasty regional cuisine, and lots of bars, with a lively weekend nightlife, and friendly and welcoming locals.
The cost of living is extremely low, with a beer costing just 2 euros.
It is surrounded by beautiful countryside where a huge selection of birds and wildlife can be spotted, and it is within 20 minutes of World Heritage City Mérida, 50 minutes of WHC Caceres, 45 minutes from Portugal and WHC Elvas, less than 2 hours from stunning Seville and Lisbon, well communicated by train.
Apart from all of that, there are lots of other charming little towns and villages nearby.
It is important to bear in mind that the school is not in a big city, and would therefore suit a teacher who enjoys what life has to offer in a smaller Spanish town.
Comments from teachers...
\"I've been working at Montijo English Academy for 5 years.
Amy and Juande are simply the best bosses.
They're always honest and kind, and have been supporting me since the very first day both in and out of the academy.
Amy and I plan our lessons together which has made it possible for me to learn a lot from her experiences, but also provided freedom to tailor the lessons to my style.
She's given me great ideas and continuous constructive feedback to help me make sure that both me and my students were happy and improving.
She also took me to the Tesol Convention in Salamanca and the convention in Madrid which were great experiences both on a professional and personal level.
Juande has given me plenty of advice for my 121 classes and provided me with all his material and lesson plans.
He also invited me to observe him in his classes and exam-prep sessions, which helped me a great deal in becoming a Cambridge speaking examiner.
Since they have a great relationship with the students and their parents, people trust their decisions.
When the pandemic started they acted quickly, moved all the classes online in a weekend, making sure that our lessons continued as smoothly as possible.
I'm happy to say that Amy and Juande are not only my bosses but my friends as well.
We spend time together outside the academy, go for walks in the country together or share a dinner.
Thanks to them I got to know people and so have more friends.
Montijo is a small town, but has everything necessary for a comfortable life.
It's got great cultural life with frequent plays and concerts in the theatre.
Having a car is an advantage, but Montijo has a train station, Merida is only half an hour away and offers even more cultural and social events.
In my three years here I've travelled around the beautiful countryside of Extremadura, seen a big part of Spain and Portugal, and made very good friends with some great people.
I look forward to meeting a new colleague and sharing new ideas.
I'm going to do my best to help you adapt in Montijo and feel comfortable in the academy\" - Zsani \"I spent one school year working at Montijo English Academy, which Im sure will remain one of the most enjoyable and beneficial experiences I will ever have.
Montijo is a charming town in Southwest Spain.
It has a weekly market, and despite being fairly small, its shops and bars are always open and there are people around (except during Siesta time of course).
It is the perfect place to learn Spanish, as I have yet to meet a single person who has been unfriendly or put off by my lack of ability to speak their language.
Montijo English Academy is a small school with maximum class sizes of 8 students.
This creates a professional, positive, and relaxed atmosphere for both its students and teachers.
Amy and Juande are the best bosses that I could have ever hoped for.
They have made sure that I always feel as though I am working with them, and not for them.
They have provided me with support both on a professional and a social level throughout my time here.
When I landed in Spain, I was greeted with a smile at the airport.
Before I arrived, they had found and visited several different places for me to live, which they visited again with me once I was here, asking all the relevant questions.
They showed me around the town, introduced me to their friends and family, and practically sorted out my paperwork for me.
On top of this, they have been, and continue to be, extremely generous with their time.
While I have been here, Amy has trained me.
She is patient, kind, and constructive in her feedback, and prepares the majority of my lessons for me.
Both her and Juande are always around to help with preparation of resources, and queries about anything, - from planning to classroom management\" - Daisy Montijo is a wonderful Spanish town, although it is not a big bustling place, it is full of authentic Spanish charm.
A place to experience real Spanish life.
It is the ideal place to learn or practice the Spanish language and to adapt to the Spanish lifestyle.
Expect to enjoy cheap beers in the sunshine, share fresh food with new friends, and lunches that go on all day and into the night.
The people here are very friendly and welcoming, even if (like me) you speak little of their language, you will be included! This is especially true of Amy and Juande, who are great bosses, and have become good friends outside the academy too! They have been very hospitable and sociable, introducing me to their friends and family so I immediately felt at home and surrounded by friends.
Amy has been very supportive, in every aspect, from before I arrived in Spain, to sorting the official paperwork and finding a flat to live in.
She has helped me settle into my first teaching job, and has a wealth of ideas, experiences and techniques for teaching.
We worked together to plan lessons, especially at the beginning, which allowed me to build confidence when planning my own classes independently.
The class sizes are limited to 8 children per class, which is a fantastic size as the classes are very inclusive and personal.
I have developed great relationships with my kids, helped by this aspect of the academy.
We work through Cambridge books that are well designed for teaching the kids, but are very flexible with adding more creative and fun ideas in the lessons.
There is also the opportunity to take on private classes with adults.
I have had three students this year, all of which I have formed good friendships with, and I have been pleased to see their English levels really improving.
The timetable (and fairly frequent Spanish bridge holidays) allows for long weekends away exploring other parts of Spain, this area is especially beautiful if you like walking and exploring the hills, forests and Mediterranean landscapes.
The closest town, Merida, is beautiful and lively with ancient Roman ruins (and clubs and bars that never seem to close!) There are also good bus links to wonderful cities like Seville, Lisbon and Madrid.
In short, I have had a great experience living and working here, and would highly recommend it to anyone looking to teach in rural Spain.
Joanna Mackie Qualifications CELTA certificate and preferably a Cambridge Young Learners Certificate.
Salary and Benefits We offer an attractive salary, help with finding accommodation and at least 2 weeks paid holiday at Christmas, a week at Easter and several paid bank holidays throughout the year.
